Frequently asked questions

Lessons 1 to 20 build the basics in order: home row (F J, D K, S L, A ;), then the top row, the bottom row, Shift, the number row and symbols. Lessons 21 to 30 are the advanced set, covering capital letters, punctuation, numbers in context, email addresses and URLs, brackets, dates, hard spellings, quotes with colons, and two sustained speed paragraphs. You can jump straight to any lesson using the named buttons above the hands, and there is no time limit; when you finish a lesson the next one loads automatically after about two seconds.

You type on your own physical keyboard. The keyboard drawn on the page is a guide, not an input: the next key you need is outlined in orange, the key you are actually pressing flashes red, and the small dots mark the home row (A S D F and J K L ;). The finger that should press the next key rises and turns orange, with a blue tint for left-hand keys and green for right-hand keys.

No. A wrong key turns the character red and the cursor stays where it is until you press the correct key, and Backspace itself is counted as another wrong keystroke rather than an erase. Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by total keystrokes, so an error stays in that lesson's score; to start the lesson clean, click its button again.

Every correct key plays a short click and every wrong key plays a different error tone, which is how the lesson gives feedback without you looking away from the text. There is no volume or mute control on the page, so mute the browser tab if you need to practise silently. The sounds load from an external audio host, so they simply stay quiet if that host is blocked.
