How long does this test run, and can I make it shorter?

It opens as a 15-minute test, and the buttons under the typing box let you switch to 5 or 10 minutes instead. The clock does not start on page load; it starts on your first keystroke and the test ends when the timer reaches zero.

Do I get the same passage every time I take it?

No. Each run shuffles a bank of general-knowledge paragraphs covering topics like AI, the ocean, Stoicism and coffee, then stitches fifteen of them into one long article, so you get fresh text every restart. The New Text / Restart button reloads a different article without changing your selected time.

What is the difference between the Gross WPM and Net WPM boxes?

Gross WPM counts every character you have typed divided by five, while Net WPM counts only the characters that matched the passage, so mistakes pull it down. The accuracy box is the share of your keystrokes that were correct, and the end-of-test card shows Net WPM as the headline figure alongside accuracy, raw WPM and total keystrokes.

Why can't I paste the text, and does the on-screen keyboard help on a phone?

Pasting into the typing box is blocked and shows a warning, so the score always reflects keys you actually pressed. The virtual keyboard that lights up each key as you press it only appears on wider screens and is hidden on phones and small tablets.
